Douglas D. Sharpnack

Doug Sharpnack is a native of Elyria, Ohio. He received his BS degree from Ohio State in 1977 and his MS and DVM degrees from Ohio State in 1981. He served as a veterinary officer in the US Army from 1981 to 1991, and during that time he trained in anatomical pathology at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. He has been a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1989. In 1991, he joined the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where he conducted research in environmental toxicology and pathology. In 1998, he became Director of CDC’s Division of Applied Research and Technology, supervising a variety of research specialties, including toxicology, engineering, environmental chemistry, and behavioral psychology. He served as CDC’s representative to the National Toxicology Program, and was a charter member of the Interagency Committee for the Validation of Alternative Methods (ICCVAM). In 2004, Doug left government work to join Pathology Associates International and Charles River Laboratories, and in 2006, he joined Vet Path Services, Inc. His expertise includes GLP-compliant pharmaceutical, animal health, and medical device anatomic and clinical pathology. Doug has published 12 peer reviewed publications, several book chapters and a number of regulatory documents.
