Kenneth A. Schafer

Kenneth A. Schafer is a native of Indiana. He received his DVM degree from Purdue University in 1991 and his PhD degree in pathobiology from Purdue University in 1998. He has been a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1996. His specialties include ocular and otic pathology. From 1998 to 2002 he was employed by Wyeth Research where he worked in human drug safety. From 2002 to 2005 he worked for Lilly Research Laboratories in the Toxicology Division. In 2005 he joined Vet Path Services, Inc. which provides independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology services to pharmaceutical, animal health, medical device, and chemical companies. VPS is now one of the largest independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology companies in North America. At VPS he provides contract and consulting pathology services to clients worldwide. Ken has also served as Associate Editor for Veterinary Pathology and editorial board member of Toxicologic Pathology, chaired the Organ Weights Best Practices Working Group for the Society of Toxicologic Pathology (STP), was Chair of the Scientific and Regulatory Policy Committee of the STP, served on the Special Senses INHAND Working Group, was Secretary/Treasurer of the STP, and in 2015-2016 was President of the STP. Ken is a frequent speaker at international meetings and provides seminars to clients on topics including toxicology and pathology of the special senses and regulatory pathology. Ken’s publications include regulatory position papers and four book chapters.
