Philip H. Long
DVM, PhD, DACVP

Philip H. Long is a native of San Diego, CA. He received his BA degree from Hofstra University in 1975, his DVM degree from the University of Georgia in 1979, and his PhD degree in pathology from the University of Georgia in 1984. He has been a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1984. His specialties are bone, joint, and dental pathology. From 1984 to 2000 he was employed by The Procter & Gamble Co. where he worked in human safety, toxicology, upstream discovery, and pharmaceutical clinical development. From 2000 to 2005 he worked for Pathology Associates International and Charles River Laboratories. In 2005 he and Chris Johnson started Vet Path Services, Inc. which provides independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology services to pharmaceutical, animal health, medical device, and chemical companies. VPS is now one of the largest independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology companies in North America. He has also served as consultant to the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Gardens, the Ohio Department of Agriculture and the Newport Aquarium and has served as Pathology Working Group Chairman for NIEHS. Phil is well published with approximately 46 peer reviewed publications, including several book chapters and regulatory position papers.
