Roxanne E. Baumgartner DVM, DACVP, DABT

Roxanne E. Baumgartner was born and raised in Southern California, and attended Mt. St. Mary’s College in West Los Angeles. She enlisted in the US Army in 1974 and served as a Russian linguist stateside and in West Berlin, Germany. She received her DVM degree in 1986 at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. In 1988 she joined the Army Veterinary Corps, and in 1994 completed the veterinary pathology residency at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. Her assignments as an Army pathologist included Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, Naval Medical Research Center, the US Army Center for Health Promotion and Preventive Medicine, and the Medical Research Institute of Chemical Defense, and areas of research included vaccine development, organ transplant anti-rejection therapy, and treatments/preventive measures against chemical agents. After retiring from the Army in 2003, she worked for WIL Research for three years as a senior pathologist before joining Vet Path Services, Inc. which provides independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology services to pharmaceutical, animal health, medical device, and chemical companies. VPS is now one of the largest independent GLP-compliant contract histopathology companies in North America. She has been a member of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists since 1996, and the American Board of Toxicology since 2002. For fun, she performs with a traditional Appalachian clogging group.
